1. The Train
The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR):
Public Transportation To The Long Island Wineries
Traveling from the city to out east can be accomplished easily by taking the LIRR. Follow the steps below and visit the LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) website for more details.
- Take the LIRR from Penn Station: From Penn Station in Manhattan, take the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to one of the following stations: Riverhead, Mattituck, or Southold.
- Exit the station: Once you arrive at the station, exit and look for a taxi or ride-sharing service (such as Uber or Lyft) to take you to the winery.
- Enjoy your visit: Once you arrive at the winery, you can take a tour, taste some wine, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Long Island’s North Fork.
The most popular route from Manhattan is to go to Penn Station, then transfer to Ronkonkoma which will then take you to the Mattituck station.

2. The Bus
The Hampton Jitney:
They have an Eastbound North Fork line that goes from NYC to stops out east on Long Island. Some of the stops on the North Fork are Riverhead, Aqueboque, Jamesport, Laurel, Mattituck, Cutchogue, Peconic, Southhold, Greenport, East Marion, Orient Village, and Orient Point. Here are some instructions:
- Take the Hampton Jitney from Manhattan: From Manhattan, take the Hampton Jitney bus to one of the following towns on Long Island’s North Fork: Riverhead, Jamesport, or Southold.
- Exit the bus: Once you arrive at your destination, exit the bus and look for a taxi or ride-sharing service (such as Uber or Lyft) to take you to the winery.
- Enjoy your visit: Once you arrive at the winery, you can take a tour, taste some wine, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Long Island’s North Fork.
3. Via a Car
Another great option is taking your own car or a rental. Here are some directions to the two main wine regions to visit:
North Fork:
- Take the Long Island Expressway (I-495) East: From Manhattan, take the Midtown Tunnel to the Long Island Expressway (I-495) East. Follow the LIE East for approximately 45 miles.
- Take Exit 73: Take Exit 73 and follow the signs for Route 25 East (also known as the “Middle Country Road”).
- Follow Route 25 East: Route 25 East will take you through the heart of Long Island wine country. You will pass through several towns and villages, including Riverhead, Jamesport, and Southold.
- Look for winery signs: As you drive along Route 25, you will see signs for various wineries. Follow the signs to your desired winery.
- Enjoy your visit: Once you arrive at the winery, you can take a tour, taste some wine, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Long Island’s North Fork.
South Fork:
- From I-495 E (Long Island Expressway) take exit 70 toward Manorville/Eastport. Merge onto CR 111 S. Merge onto NY-27 E (Sunrise Highway) via the ramp to Montauk.
- Continue on NY-27 E. for about 16 miles. NY-27 E will merge/change into the Southampton Bypass (CR-39).
- Take the Southampton Bypass (CR-39) to Montauk Hwy heading east to the various winery destinations in the South Fork area.

Given that it is unlawful and unsafe to drink and drive, it is advised that you designate a sober driver or use a ride-sharing service. Additionally, it’s a good idea to call the winery in advance and arrange a reservation because weekends there may be rather crowded.
